Stephanie Enkel Lancefield International Symposium for Streptococci and Streptococcal Diseases 2025

Stephanie Enkel

I'm a public health researcher with experience in infectious disease prevention, environmental health, and community-embedded research. My PhD focused on Streptococcus pyogenes and its transmission in remote Aboriginal communities in northern Australia, where I collaborated closely with health staff, educators, and cultural mentors to explore how infrastructure, housing, and hygiene shape infectious disease risk. I’ve worked across disciplines—blending microbiology, epidemiology, and qualitative research—and across systems, from remote clinics to state and national policy. I’ve co-developed field protocols, supported implementation trials, and translated evidence into actionable briefs for health departments and government. I'm particularly interested in roles that connect applied research with on-the-ground impact, including field-based surveillance, outbreak response, or regional technical advisory positions. I bring a mix of rigour, flexibility, and a strong commitment to equity—alongside experience communicating complex findings to diverse audiences, from community members to Ministers.
