Madhu Gupta
Dr. Madhu Gupta is a Professor of Community Medicine in Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. She graduated as a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and post graduated as a Doctor of Medicine (MD in Community Medicine) from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. She did her PhD work at the School of Public Health and Primary Care (CAPHRI), Maastricht University, The Netherlands, on ascertaining ‘Effectiveness of multiple strategy intervention to reduce maternal and child health inequalities in Haryana’, in 2016. She has been working in the field of vaccinology for nearly 18 years and experience of conducting 17 vaccine trials (Phase I, II, III, IV vaccine trials). She was a member of the sub-committee of maternal immunization under the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization in India, a member of the State Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (STAGI), Haryana, State Expert Committee on Adverse Events Following Immunization in Haryana, Data safety and monitoring board at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and Chairperson of Covid-19 Vaccination Committee, PGIMER. She was appointed as an advisory board member of COVID-19 Asia Pacific Regional Advisory, Janssen Asia Pacific, 2021, at the international level. Currently, she is chairing a national committee on Adult Immunization in India under the banner of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM). She conducts a one-week national vaccinology course, which is known as ‘PGI’s Vaccinology Course (PGIVAC)’ in India. She has published more than 200 publications and out of which nearly 50 are specifically focused on vaccine-related research in reputed national and international journals of high impact factor. Two of such publications are published in New England Journal of Medicine on estimating the burden of typhoid and assessing the safety of rotavirus vaccine with intussusception, respectively. Currently, she is a co-investigator in the Strep A Vaccine Global Consortium (SAVAC) project at the Indian site.
